Unexpected Romance
It was her first day out in Seoul since Hye Mi had moved to Korea. Hye Mi, even though her name was Korean and she looked and spoke Korean, was originally born in America. When she spoke English she had an American accent but when she spoke in Korean she had kept her natural Korean accent. Hye Mi had typical Korean looks. Hye Mi had long, straight, black hair. In America, people would die to have her hair. Her eyes were brown, but not like everyone else’s. She had a golden tint to them. They were more a honeycomb colour than a brown colour. Hye Mi was slim and tall, like most other 19 year old American girls. In America, she had been a part-time model, but she had left all that behind her. Here she wanted to start afresh.
Hye Mi had been out shopping in Seoul’s City Centre for about six hours when her stomach began to rumble and she felt a pang of hunger. Hye Mi turned around and headed in the direction of the food district. Hye Mi slid open the door of a noodle house so she could enter, but she ended up banging into someone and falling backwards. She shut her eyes and prepared herself for the fall. After a few minutes Hye Mi slowly opened her eyes as she wondered as to why she hadn’t fallen. Her eyes opened and she saw a pair of honey-brown eyes only a few inches away from hers. As soon as the guy that was holding her up realised that she had opened her eyes, he smiled. He had a dazzling white smile.
- Annyeonghaseyo! – He greeted her as he stood Hye Mi back onto her feet.
- Kamshamida… Mianhe… - Hye Mi smiled weakly back at him. – I better go… - Hye Mi turned to leave but her stomach had other ideas. It grumbled so loudly that the unknown guy that had just saved her even heard it.
- Yah, don’t go. Stay, and let’s eat.
- But you were just leaving?! – Hye Mi raised an eyebrow at him.
- Dae. I am, but we don’t have to eat here. – He winked at her, smiled and grabbed her hand. – C’mon.
Hye Mi was following the handsome guy around like a little puppy. As they were walking Hye Mi examined the guy. He was quite tall, but she could still reach him. He had light brown hair that looked auburn when the sunlight hit it. Hye Mi wondered as to what his name was. He hadn’t mentioned anything about himself.
- What about here? – He had stopped and gestured to another noodle house.
- Dae. – They went in, sat down and ordered.
Hye Mi was now examining his face. He looked so handsome. She had never seen anyone like him.
- What’s your name? – He asked.
- Go Hye Mi – She replied.
- Very pretty… Beautiful name. – He smiled at her as he said this.
- What’s your name…?
- How are you feeling? – He cut Hye Mi off before she could finish her question.
- Ummm… Cinchana. – She smiled.
There conversation was cut short when the waitress brought their meals.
*After the Meal*
They were just leaving the restaurant when Hye Mi tapped his shoulder.
- What’s your name? – Hye Mi asked when he turned around to her.
- That doesn’t matter. I had a nice time. Annyeong Hye Mi! – He turned and walked away.
- But… - Hye Mi said, he stopped, turned, and said,
- If we meet again then its faith. Then you’ll know my name.
- Dae! L Kamsahamnida!! – Hye Mi shouted as she hugged the unknown guy.
*3 Weeks Later*
Hye Mi had now completely settled into her new life in Seoul. She had got a job in the noodle restaurant that she had eaten in with the unknown guy. She applied here in the hope that someone may know this guy or that she might meet him again. This didn’t happen though. By now she had given up hope on ever meeting him again. All she knew about him was that his name had the initial KHJ. She only knew this from the embroidered initials that were sewn into the handkerchief that the guy had given her that day. But it didn’t matter anymore.
